5 effective ways to heal acne scars

Acne scars can test your patience and mar your natural good looks. We present five easy fixes for them.
Acne is one of the biggest banes when it comes to skin. It can happen to anyone, and it has the tendency to leave behind ugly scars for the world to see. The scars may take the shape of discolouration, dark patches or depressions in the skin.
The best way to prevent acne scars is to prevent the occurrence of acne. Eating healthy food, drinking a lot of water, regular exercise and getting enough sleep are all conducive to good skin health. But if you still experience acne breakouts and scars, this is what you can do:
- Daily cleansing and moisturising. Not cleansing and moisturising the skin every day results in a build-up of dead skin cells, excess oil and dirt on the skin. Acne develops and leaves scars behind. So instead of letting acne scars appear, it is better to remove the cause of acne – with daily cleansing and moisturising.
- Tomato and lemon face pack. Both tomato and lemon have bleaching and hydrating properties. Both of them can fade acne scars over time. Make a face pack out of ripe tomato pulp (keep the seeds and the jelly-like substance around them intact) and add one teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix together and apply on the face. Once it dries, wash with cold water. Do this daily to reduce the appearance of scars.
- Orange peel mask. Vitamin C helps to hydrate the skin and aid cell repair so that it can remove the vestiges of acne scars from the skin. here’s how you can prepare orange peel: take the peel from a ripe orange and dry it in strong sunlight. The peel soon becomes brittle. Now pound the orange peel in a tablespoon of fresh milk and use half a teaspoon of rose water as well. The peel now forms a paste – refrigerate it overnight and apply it to the skin first thing after waking up. It removes surface impurities, prevents the occurrence of acne and removes scars over a period of days.
- Oat scrub. Oily, unclean skin is prone to acne breakouts. You may drink a lot of water and trust that sweating may remove toxins from the skin. But you must aid the skin’s cellular repair process by removing impurities from the surface. Instead of using readymade chemical scrubs, make one at home using oats. Take two tablespoons of oats and add one teaspoon of cold milk to it. Rub it evenly over the skin in circular motions to remove excess oil, dead skin cells and dirt. The skin becomes clearer and fresher, and the scars also reduce. If you have sensitive skin, grind the oats to powder before mixing with milk.

- Hydrogen peroxide. This is a sure-fire cure that will lighten and remove acne scars permanently. But do not try it if you have sensitive skin or conditions like eczema. Hydrogen peroxide is a mild acid that has a bleaching action. It goes to the source of the scar and starts removing the pollutants that cause scarring on the skin. Take two or three drops of the liquid on a ball of cotton and apply it evenly on the scars. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water. Doing this daily will reduce the appearance of scars in just a few days.
