Here's how you can age gracefully

Aging is a natural process that each person must face – but there are ways to slow it down so that it does not leave its marks on young skin.

Of all the natural processes that the body goes through, most people are not able to come to terms with skin aging. We all like to have youthful, radiant skin. But when the skin begins to look dull and spotted, and also develops fine lines and puffiness, it means that the skin is aging and needs immediate help.

Try these 5 ways to age slowly and gracefully:
1 Get regular facials. Once you cross the age of 25, your skin begins to slowly lose its natural elasticity and moisture. Within time, aging processes make the skin dull and lined. This state of affairs can be easily remedied with regular facials. A facial removes the dead skin cells sitting on the visible upper layer of the skin, and infuses hydration by the use of moisturising creams. The massage further stimulates blood circulation and toxin removal from the skin. Your skin is thus renewed and able to fight aging much better.

2 Get head massages. Just like a facial, it is important to get regular head massages as well. A head massage not only feels great, but the use of warm oil stimulates the scalp to remove dandruff and the impurities that cause hair loss. Further, blood circulation to the scalp is improved. An added benefit of a head massage is that the nerves in the head and neck are connected to major nerves in the back and arms, so massaging these also improves upper body responses.

3 Wear sunscreen every day. The importance of using sunscreen cannot be emphasised enough, especially when one lives in harsh climatic conditions. The sunscreen (preferably with SPF 30 and above) acts as a barrier between the skin and direct sunlight. Thus, it reduces the chances of skin damage and accelerated skin aging.

4 Use the right products. After a certain age, fine lines, wrinkles and age spots start to appear on the skin. While these may be partially cured if caught in time, only the right skin care products are required to erase them. However, you must be careful about the kind of products you use. For example, while most anti-aging skin creams contain retinol to fight fine lines, those with sensitive skin should not use retinol. Some skin types are also not good candidates for glycolic peels. Your dermatologist can recommend the right kind of skin products after studying their composition and your skin type.

5 Get the right skin treatments. Women in their 30s and 40s might feel the need to undergo specific skin treatments to remove the fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin and pigmentation from their skin. It is important to approach the right skin treatment clinic for these treatments, where the dermatologist will take a detailed consultation and study your skin minutely before prescribing the skin treatment. The clinic also prescribes post-treatment care to maximise the benefits of the skin treatment.
